Located between the historic downtown bridge and the new span on Sturgeon Bay’s working waterfront, the Door County Maritime Museum offers a fun and educational experience for all ages. Look for the big red tug John Purves, an immaculately restored 1919 vessel now open for docent-led tours!
The 20,000 square foot waterfront museum includes four diverse galleries, including “Pirates —Ship to Shore" (opening May 19, 2012). This captivating new exhibit explores the lives and times of some of the most famous coastal buccaneers.
The museum's exhibit chronicling the amazing story of Sturgeon Bay's WWII shipbuilding boom is a visitor favorite. Working submarine periscope, steamship wheelhouse, 19th century lighthouse lens and extensive collection of ship models are museum highlights!
Don’t miss the other Museum experiences offered seasonally at the top of the Peninsula in Gills Rock and at the iconic Cana Island lighthouse near Bailey's Harbor.
