Starting with Christmas by the Bay Nov. 18th, Sturgeon Bay has several fun events lined up to help you celebrate the holiday season Door County style.

Holiday shopping without the crowds—Discover one of a kind treasures in our charming specialty shops. Our three distinct shopping districts offer a variety of home accents, fine art, and holiday gift & decorative selections. Don’t miss our holiday specials!

Culinary delights in a peaceful setting—Our unique restaurants offer culinary delights for every palate, offering a variety of cuisines. Stop by one of our quaint cafes to warm up with a cup of hot cider or spirit and a delectable dessert.

Join us for any or all of our holiday events and help us celebrate the season!

 

Weekend Events for November 18-20, 2011

 Christmas Tree Lighting
Nov. 18th 7pm (music 6pm-8pm)
Help us kick off the holiday season with the tree lighting ceremony and music by Randi Fay at the Clock Tower on Third Avenue. From 6-8pm, enjoy wagon-rides and music, kids can mail their letters to Santa and the shops celebrate the season with special events!

Christmas by the Bay Holiday Stroll
Friday thru Sunday, Nov. 18-19th
The Jefferson Street Shops invite you to visit their charming boutiques to discover this year’s magical offerings…from personalized gifts to dazzling attire to magical holiday décor. Enter to win a holiday gift basket valued over $500!

Holiday Ornament Showcase
Friday thru Sunday, Nov.18th—Dec. 11th
View and bid on a variety of unique, one of a kind ornaments created by local artisans for this special Silent Auction for the holiday season at the Maritime Museum. Bidding concludes on December 14th.

Hay Wagon Rides

Enjoy a FREE horse-drawn wagon ride with various stops in Sturgeon Bay.

Christmas by the Bay Parade
Nov. 19th,10am
Catch some sweet treats as Santa arrives in Sturgeon Bay! Also featuring the Sturgeon Bay High School Band and many other fabulous local floats! The festive procession starts at Sawyer Park to Madison Ave to the new bridge, across to Third Ave, then proceeds to Jefferson Street.

Door County Historical Museum, Nov. 19th (After parade) 11am-3pm
Don’t miss a visit with Santa and his reindeer and be sure to bring your camera! PLUS Randy Peterson singing and making everyone merry!

Sturgeon Bay’s Tie to the Green Bay Packers, Curly Lambeau, and NFL Cheerleaders

Curly Lambeau, Green Bay Packers founder, player and long time coach, passed away while mowing the lawn in front of the house at 522 Michigan Street on June 1, 1965. Curly Lambeau was a good friend of Mary Jane (VanDuyse) Sorgel who still owns this house. Mary Jane was a national baton twirling champion who joined the Packers in 1951 as a majorette. Vince Lombardi asked her to form a professional cheerleading group, the Golden Girls, who performed from 1961-1972. Many of the Golden Girls came from Mary Jane’s dance studio and were often seen practicing in the front yard of this house. Mary Jane is affectionately known as “The Original Golden Girl.”

city beautification and promotionOur mission is to position Sturgeon Bay as a year round destination and promote our city as the premier Door County community to live, shop and play. We know there are non-business members of the community that want to contribute. Help us enhance Sturgeon Bay through all the seasons.

The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center invites you, our neighbors, friends and families to be our partners. The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center is the non-profit organization that coordinates city festivals, parades, seasonal city beautifications and so much more that we can all enjoy. These projects help to make our community charming, enjoyable and inviting. JOIN US! Help us continue our efforts in making Sturgeon Bay a great place to live, shop and play.

Social Media Request

As an added benefit of being a member of Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center, you have the ability to promote your events or happenings with the extensive outreach (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.) of SBVC’s social media presence. The main goal of the SBVC is to serve the Sturgeon Bay “interest community,” which includes visitors, SBVC members, and residents of the Sturgeon Bay area.

We ask our members to provide as much information and detail as possible as early as possible. Events or happenings should be newsworthy to the visitors, SBVC members and residents of the Sturgeon Bay area. SBVC will maintain editorial discretion in preparing materials for release (i.e. shortening for Twitter, condensing for Facebook, etc.).

Due to the volume of material being requested, please allow one week for posting.

It's a Tasting at the Neighborhood

Representatives from Miller Brewery, Capitol Brewery and Cherry Delite will be here with free samples of their new products and some of our old favorites. Wines, beers, specialty liquors and Door County cherry products will be on-hand to taste, taste, taste. We will draw for a raffle winner every 15 minutes and give away food, bottles of wine, liquor, glasses apparel and more! The tasting will run from 1:45 until 4:15 so all the ladies can arrive whenever they choose and stay as late as they choose. Feel free to stay with us for dinner or cocktails. Sturgeon Bay, Door County is located on a canal that connects the waters of Green Bay to the waters of Lake Michigan. This unique feature allows you to experience diverse water sports, parks and fishing without ever leaving your boat. In addition to our many water sport offerings and charter fishing opportunities, we have water tours that tour you from the waters of Green Bay to the waters of Lake Michigan.

You can choose between the historic Chicago Fireboat that departs from the Maritime Museum or a large luxury vessel, the Harbor Lady, docked behind Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center. Both offer assorted types of cruises including morning, afternoon and cocktail sunset cruises. Perhaps you are visiting Sturgeon Bay for a conference, family reunion or wedding...what a great way to get out on the water and see the shores of Sturgeon Bay. Live Music, Concerts and Theatre

Sturgeon Bay, Door County has colorful and diverse entertainment venues to show you. Throughout the year, there are live entertainment options to delight the locals and visitors. From the stage at Third Avenue Playhouse to the pub at Stone Harbor to the bistro tables at one of our wonderful coffee shops to the lawn at the Maritime Museum, you can enjoy live music, comedy acts and theatrical performances. Many of the listed entertainment venues bring both local and national acts to their stages.

In addition to all of these entertainment options, the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center hosts as many as 14 large events throughout the year that often include multiple stages of complimentary entertainment. Please look at our Events page for more information on local events.

Flowers are wonderful! We all love giving and receiving bouquets.

Our shop has created an educational class about how to grow, take care of, and enjoy flowers. The class encompasses a little bit of biology, chemistry and artistry.

Each class lasts about 45 minutes. By the end of the class all involved know how to treat flowers, make flower food and do a basic flower arrangement with fillers, lines, focals and greens. The best part it that the students then get to take home their bouquets.

You’ve seen miniature succulent gardens with sedum and hen & chicks, but come join us and create a succulent garden yourself. Our favorite container to use is old work boots, but shoes also work. Other shallow containers work well, as long as there is proper drainage. Bring your own container or purchase a container from our garden center. We will assist in your plantings as you choose from a variety of sun loving succulents. These are
hardy perennials and are able to withstand winters with proper care. Also design interior annual succulents to add year-round color to your home or for your patios during the summer. Create and then take home.

Just in time for Mother’s Day! This hands on, help workshop, will direct you in selecting the correct sun, part sun, or shade plants for your special hanging basket. Our staff will help assist you in a creative design to reflect your needs. Roam through our greenhouses and choose your plants to create a piece of art for your front or back yard. Bring your own basket or purchase a basket from our assortment of baskets in our garden center.

Fine Art Fair

The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center is pleased to invite you to share in the excitement as we plan our 12th annual Sturgeon Bay fine ART fair. This year’s dates are Saturday & Sunday, May 29 & 30, 2010!

Every effort is being made to continue to make this a quality event for both artist and patron. Located at Sunset Park, along Sturgeon Bay’s waterfront, you will be in a highly visible and inviting environment to display your art.

Participating artists of the past have recognized our fair as being “artist friendly” with 15’x15’ booth space, easy access for set up and take down, free morning rolls and coffee, an informative registration packet and same day signage throughout Sturgeon Bay. In addition, we will be providing “booth sitters” for those artists needing a break.  The date for the art fair is also carefully chosen to coincide with the month-long Door County Festival of Blossoms and what has become one of Door County’s most popular 3 days – the Memorial Day weekend.  These are just a few of the ways we strive to make our fair a pleasant and successful experience for all! We believe this event to be an opportunity not only to participate in a quality art fair but also a chance for you to take in the beauty of our county as well. 

To ensure your application is processed correctly, please be sure you send SBVC the following (after registering below):

  • 4 labeled slides/CD
  • SASE for sample returns
  • $10.00 late fee if after March 9, 2010

Please consider this show as the “kickoff” to your season of art fair participation and submit your slides for jury in Sturgeon Bay’s fine ART fair ‘10.

Harvest Festival

The 20th annual Harvest Festival in historic Sturgeon Bay is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2009, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.!  Sponsored by the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center, this event will include an art show, craft sales, car show, music, food & beverages, and children’s activities.

Crafters are invited to reserve space to sell their items for a booth fee of $85.00. All items to be sold must be hand-crafted; no mass produced items will be allowed. Each space is approximately 10x10 and sellers must provide their own tables, chairs and tents.  Set-up time is from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and stay set up until 5:00 p.m.

If you are interested in booth space, please complete the form and payment below no later than August 31. You will be notified by mail of the location of your spot the week before the event. Thank you for your interest in our annual Harvest Festival! SBVC is not responsible for damage, weather or theft; vendors accept sole responsibility for their booth space and contents.
