Located between the historic downtown bridge and the new span in Sturgeon Bay, the Door County Maritime Museum offers a fun and educational experience for all ages. Look for the big red tug John Purves, an immaculately restored 1919 vessel open for its first full season of docent-led tours in 2009! The 20,000 square foot waterfront museum includes four diverse galleries spotlighting the area’s rich shipbuilding heritage, lighthouses and “Freshwater Fury”, an imaginative exhibit capturing the Great Storm of 1913. Don’t miss the other Museum experiences offered seasonally at Gills Rock and on Canal Island, where the lighthouse and tower are open to the public.
