Noon: Polar Plunge, a long-standing Waterfront Mary’s tradition.
A large hole is cut into the ice-covered ship canal and carpet is laid out around the hole.
One at a time, locals and visitors alike take turns jumping into the chilly water as a way to welcome the new year.
Afterwards, warm up indoors with drink specials and festive cheer.
Snowshoe, cross-country ski or travel on foot and wander through the woods at Crossroads at Big Creek or Potawatomi State Park.
