“Spooktacular” Sturgeon Bay
As fall steps into Sturgeon Bay, there’s nothing more exciting than a little ghostly lore of our historic town. Brave enough to find out what’s lurking beneath our charming waterfront community?
Sturgeon Bay has a sordid history of unusual murders, haunted buildings, and a spirited maritime past. The Door County Trolley Tour will guide you through the mysterious happenings that still exist in “Olde Sturgeon Bay.” Tours begin September 23 and run through October 29.
Looking for something a little less spooky and a little more “small town” charming? Join us for the fifth annual “Thrills on Third” on Saturday, October 29. Jeff and Sarah Bradley, owners of Artists Guild and creators of the event, wanted to do something that had nothing to do with their retail business but everything to do with thanking the Sturgeon Bay community. “We came up with pumpkin painting as a creative way for families to enjoy time together,” states Sarah. “Thrills on Third is something that is just a little “less spooky” than some of the other Halloween events and the kids costume parade is such a great small town event.”
Artists Guild kicks off the day with their pumpkin painting from 9 to 11am. These artist created pumpkins then line the streets for all to view throughout the day. To add to the fun, the Boys and Girls Club of Door County hosts a free haunted house along with carnival games and treats from 10 am to 1 pm and the Door County Library will be doing a special “Slime at the Library” Halloween project from 9 am to noon.
The fun culminates at 1 pm when kids, parents, and pets (on their leashes, please) arrive in costume at Martin Park where the Mayor and select celebrity judges vote for their favorites. Third Avenue then becomes way for the “Thrills on Third” parade up to the Clock Tower where the Mayor presents the coveted awards.
Can it get better? If you ask the kids, the answer is “Yes!” After the parade, Third Avenue businesses participate in a street-wide “Trick-or-Treat” until 3 pm.
Thinking that kids get to have all of the fun? Hardly! The Holiday Music Motel is host to the annual “Dark Songs” October 28-29. "Dark Songs / The Edgar Allan Polka" is a "killer" week-long songwriting event that culminates in a 2-night Halloween costume-party extravaganza!
So many options, so little time! Sturgeon Bay, Door County has something for everyone! Come for the fun…Stay for the Memories.
