The 2018 Fall Lighthouse Festival includes boat excursions and guided land-based tours spotlighting historic Door County, Wisconsin lighthouses. For tickets and more details, please visit DCMM.org.
Land-Based Lakeshore Bus Tour
This small group tour is about 7 hours long and includes a guided tour of the Cana Island Lighthouse, a guided tour of the Baileys Harbor Range Lights at the Ridges Sanctuary, and a stop for lunch.
Lakeshore Lighthouse Cruise
This 2-hour tour includes seeing the Cana Island Lighthouse, the historic “Bird Cage” (old Baileys Harbor Lighthouse) and the Baileys Harbor Range Lights. The tour will also cruise by the location of several shipwrecks from the 1800s, and you may be able to see one from the boat.
Chambers Island Tour
Access to the lighthouse will require a 3-mile round trip docent-led hike across the island to the historic lighthouse. Lighthouse caretakers will meet the tours as they arrive at the house. There you will be able to soak up the amazing view and climb to the lantern room platform. Good hiking shoes recommended and participants should be in good enough shape to handle the hike. Time on the island will be approximately 2 ½ hours; the total tour will take 4 hours. Vending is not available, so please bring a box lunch.
Plum Island Tour
This 5-hour tour is a rare offering, permitting visitors onto Plum Island and into the island buildings for a guided tour by members of the Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands. Vending is not available, so please bring a box lunch. This walking tour covers more than 2 miles round trip and requires good walking shoes. Shorts are not recommended.
Sail Door County Schooner Cruise
Set sail into yesteryear on a 19th-century tall ship to Peninsula State Park’s Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Join the crew in hoisting a halyard or sit back and listen to wind and waves aboard the 65-foot schooner, the Edith M. Becker. Local lore and history of the surrounding waters and water views of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse will complete this 2.5-hour sailing adventure as you view rocky shores, islands, caves and majestic bluffs. Beverages available for purchase onboard ship. Hear the cannon thunder as they strike sail and salute the end of a perfect cruise.
Sturgeon Bay Fireboat – Sunset Dessert Cruise
Enjoy a picturesque cruise of Sturgeon Bay culminating with a water view of the illuminated Sherwood Point Lighthouse aboard the historic City of Chicago fireboat, Fred A. Busse, for a great photo opportunity. This narrated 90-minute tour also includes a close-up view of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, one of the largest shipyards on the Great Lakes. Tours include complimentary desserts with other refreshments and snacks available for purchase.
