7 Bucket List Activities to Experience this Winter in Sturgeon Bay

Explore the Trails

Bundle up and hike at one of our area parks or nature preserves. Once the snow flies, bust out your snowshoes or cross-country skis to experience the trails in a new way.
Insider Tip: Once we receive a fresh blanket of snow, head over to Crossroads at Big Creek for cross-country ski or snowshoe rentals if you do not own a pair of your own!

Holiday Shopping

There is no shortage of options from our three shopping districts and beyond. It’s never too early to find that special someone the perfect gift with our variety of unique gift shops and boutiques. Shop Small Saturday is November 27th this year, but don’t hesitate to support our local Sturgeon Bay business throughout the winter season.

Kick Off the Holiday Season with Unwrapping Sturgeon Bay & Christmas By the Bay Weekend

We are so excited to celebrate the holiday season November 19th-21st here in Sturgeon Bay. This magical weekend will include the “Unwrapping” Community Car Parade, tree lighting, Holiday Parade with Santa, and much more! For a full schedule of the weekend’s events, visit our Special Events Page.

Experience the Sturgeon Bay Bridge Walk

A favorite of both locals and visitors. Walk over both the Michigan Street and Oregon Street Bridges for a 1.2 mile loop of the East and West Waterfronts. If you are in the area, stop into our Welcome Center and pick up a Walkable Sturgeon Bay Map to guide you along the way.

Get Inspired By the Arts

Explore Sturgeon Bay’s wide variety of art offerings. Galleries and districts make for enlightening shopping and experiences. Our local artisans feature art, jewelry, glass, in addition to other handcrafted pieces. Visit the Sturgeon Bay Art Crawl to see featured artwork.

Watch the Winter Fleet Come into Port

The fleet season runs from the last half of December through the end of February. On average, expect anywhere from 10-18 ships to make their way into port at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding. It’s quite the show! We are still awaiting a final schedule for the Winter Fleet’s arrival, but continue to visit our Seasonal Information Page for updates.

Snuggle Up with a Good Book

Cozy lodging accommodations make for the perfect place to snuggle up during the winter season. Locally owned bookstores are stocked with wonderful offerings and reading selections from Door County authors.
