A Day Out On The Bay & You’ll Be Hooked!

There’s no doubt that Sturgeon Bay has the best fishing in the Midwest (but we might be a little biased). Fishing in Sturgeon Bay is the best adventure for a guy's weekend away, a family vacation, or even a solo trip to explore all that Sturgeon Bay has to offer!

Last month, we went out on a morning trip with Professional Fisherman, Dale Stroschien. Dale and his wife, Karen, own Wacky Walleye Guide Service and the Sand Bay Beach Resort. With Dale’s expertise and knowledge on the area, it was an entertaining day and so fun to learn about the waters surrounding Sturgeon Bay.

Sturgeon Bay is a huge fishing destination according to Dale.. and he’s not wrong. Sturgeon Bay was voted as the top bass fishing area by Bassmaster in 2014. On our early morning out on the Bay of Green Bay, we found a calm spot to drop anchor and start our hunt for Smallmouth Bass. As of this season, Dale prefers to fish for Smallmouth Bass versus Walleye because they are more aggressive and smaller in size.

The water temperature in the Bay of Green Bay is cooler than most years, which again, makes it a great year for Smallmouth Bass fishing. Smallmouth Bass typically like cooler, rocky areas to hide in versus the Largemouth Bass which you can find in warmer inland waters.

If you’re looking for a guide who knows every inch of the Bay of Green Bay, Dale and his crew at Wacky Walleye are the guides for you. We had the BEST summer day cruising along the water and learning about the fish of Sturgeon Bay with Dale!

If bayside fishing isn’t your thing, and you want a different experience, Reel Impressions Sportfishing Charter is a great alternative. Captain John Pollock sets sail around 4AM on his 35’ Viking Sportfish from Madeline Marina in Downtown Sturgeon Bay and trust us, it’s worth the early wake up call.

With Captain John, you can expect the trip of a lifetime. Safety and comfort are his main points of importance on your trip. OH! And also catching a lot of salmon.

Earlier this year, Captain John and his crew took a group of veterans out on a charter trip, as a thank you for their service. Ryan Off the Grid captured the day out on the water and the beauty of Sturgeon Bay - lakeside.
