Wind, Water, and Wet: Sailing and Windsurfing Sturgeon Bay, Door County Style

Sail power may no longer move cargo across oceans or transport people to begin new lives in strange lands. But it still has the power to lift our spirits and tug at our hearts in a way that no powerboat ever could. Those fortunate enough to own a sailboat and navigate the waters of Sturgeon Bay know that feeling. For those of you visiting Sturgeon Bay, Door County, seize the day and charter a sailboat cruise and experience it for yourself.

Sailing can be quiet and romantic if you are on a sunset cruise, or exhilarating and dramatic if you are in a racing fleet. Windsurfing takes the thrill and exhilaration of wind power to a whole new level. If you’re up for the challenge, rent a windsurfer and you’ll see what we mean. Prepare to fall in the water repeatedly while you learn the trick of staying on the windsurfer. But once you’re up and going, you'll be hooked on the adrenaline rush of skimming madly atop the water propelled by nothing but the wind and the huge grin on your face.

Most silent sports are fitness and aerobic-oriented. But those of us at Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center believe that strolling, meandering, and—yes, even shopping—can be a silent sporting activity.
