White Lace Inn: Cherry-Apple Crisp French Toast
Cherry-Apple Crisp French Toast
- 6 slices of French bread, sliced ½” thick (about 6 cups)
- 1 can apple pie filling
- 1 cup Door County cherries, rinsed
- 7 eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole or 2% milk
- 1 ½ cups half & half
- 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick)
- ½ cup flour
- 1cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- 2 cups regular oatmeal
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spray 9 x 13 baking dish with vegetable spray.
Cut about ½ loaf of white bread into cubes, crust off. Spread bread cubes into baking dish.
Beat together: eggs, milk and half & half. Pour over the bread.
Spread evenly over bread: 1 can apple pie filling and 1 cup rinsed Door County cherries.
Melt butter (1/2 cup).
Mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and oatmeal. Add melted butter, mixing until ingredients are coated.
Spread oatmeal mixture over the bread slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Bake covered with foil for 40 minutes, then uncovered for another 20 minutes.
