The Playground Project at Otumba Park Announces April Donation Campaign
The Playground Project at Otumba Park is excited to announce that an anonymous Sturgeon Bay donor has pledged to match up to $40,000 for the cause. The Playground Project at Otumba Park is a first-of-its-kind offering in the Door County area, which will be ADA Compliant and inclusive of varied abilities and all ages.
The Playground Project at Otumba Park will create a premier public park in Sturgeon Bay offering a high-quality recreation environment where families can easily interact, form friendships, and where the community members and tourists of varied abilities can make lasting memories together. Otumba Park is not only used by local families, but it is home to the YMCA kids summer camp, used daily for recess by St. Peter's Lutheran school, and a favorite in the Door County community. The current playground equipment is decades old and is not suited for all ages and abilities. This is an exciting opportunity to complete Otumba Park’s recent beach expansion with updated playground equipment featuring three distinct areas of play and equipment for ages: 6 months-24 months, 2-5 years old, and 6-12 years old.
According to The Playground Project at Otumba Park fundraising leader, Ashley Schanock, “A few of the inclusive playground pieces of new equipment to highlight include the “Merry-Go-All” which is a fully accessible, inclusive merry-go-round for up to 8 passengers; “RoxAll See-Saw” with high backs and side rails, accommodates users of all abilities and easy transfers to and from a mobility device; and a ‘Trio of Musical Instruments’.”
“We are so grateful for this anonymous donor, who has agreed to match donations until April 30th, for their generosity in helping make the Playground Project at Otumba Park a reality for our community,” said Schanock. “We need to raise $350,000 to build the playground, and as of Friday, we were nearly halfway to our goal. Thanks to this big-hearted matching campaign, we will be even closer to bringing this playground that is inclusive of varied abilities and ages to our community!”
Through their partnership with Destination Sturgeon Bay, all donations to the Playground Project at Otumba Park are a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible charitable donation.
