Sturgeon Bay is home to 10 county parks, a state park, and numerous nature preserves, including Crossroads at Big Creek. Sand beaches, areas to explore, camping, bicycle trails, fishing, educational programs, history, music, gardens and a 75-foot observation tower rising above the trees to give you breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
2. Fish for your dinner
Not a requirement, but fun to try. Create lasting memories and join the Kid’s Fishing Derby in June, or learn from the pros on a fishing charter. Family not fans of fish? Tour and sample local cheese, vinegars and oils, fruits and beverages made from them.
3. Navigate Around
Make your way around Sturgeon Bay and Door County with visits to historic lighthouses. Explore them all during the annual lighthouse festival, or explore the beautiful lighthouses all year long on foot.
4. Play on the water
Bring your own, or rent a boat, kayak, paddleboard, Jet Ski, sailboat or canoe for a day of fun on the open water. Six rental outlets in the City will help you create your adventure.
5. Embark on an educational adventure
Explore the Door County Maritime Museum, Door County Historical Museum, Heritage Village at Big Creek, or the Miller Art Museum. Stories of lonely lighthouse keepers, bold inventors, hardy settlers, artists, fishermen and farmers complement interactive exhibits, original art and relaxed museum atmospheres.
6. Challenge yourself
Spend a day building skills that last a lifetime. Try team building with a ropes course, fly on a zip line tour, climb indoors, traverse an obstacle course or take a kayak tour of nearby parks. Play with the experts and learn tips and tricks for the best experiences possible.
Be entertained with a family-friendly Movie in the Park or Harmony by the Bay concert. Movies are every other Friday evening from June 16-August 25; Concerts are weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket, temperatures often drop after dark when you’re only a few blocks from the ship canal at Martin Park!
8. Feed and interact with farm animals
Visit a working or display farm. Watch chicks hatch right before your eyes, feed baby animals, take a stroll on nature trails and then enjoy delicious treats.
9. Feel the need for speed
Skate in Sturgeon Bay, or cheer on stock car racers! Public, free entry skatepark where skateboarders of every level can shred,and improve their skills in a challenging and safe space. Stock cars race Saturday nights during spring and summer at the Door County Fairgrounds.
