Fall Season

STURGEON BAY IS OPEN ALL FOUR SEASONS!

As much as we hate to see summer go, we have to admit, Fall in Sturgeon Bay is one of our absolute favorite seasons. Apple picking, fall colors, hiking through nature and hearing those leaves crunch below your feet…what’s not to love?

Whether you’re heading out on a last-minute day trip or if you’ve planned a weekend getaway, there is no shortage of things to do during fall in Sturgeon Bay.

Apple Picking. We can hardly wait for the fall crop of apples to appear at our favorite orchard stands along with all of the goodness that goes along with them (think fresh cider, apple cider donuts, caramel covered apples—you get the drift). Make sure to stop by Robertson Orchards for a pick-your-own experience or simply for a farm stand visit. Did we mention that they have amazing pears, too?

Hiking & Biking. There is nothing better hiking or biking through Potawatomi State Park, along Whitefish Dunes State Park, down to the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve, the Sturgeon Bay segment of the 1,200 mile Ice Age Trail. Make sure to snap a selfie with “Woolly the Mammoth” at Bay View Park, around the Creek at Crossroads at Big Creek, or along the historic Ahnapee State Trail. Not enough options? The Door County Land Trust has over 8,500 acres of fields, forests, farmlands, orchards, wetlands and shoreline throughout Door County. That should be enough to keep you busy for a bit! Check out the e-bike rentals at Nor Door Cyclery and Bay Shore Outfitters if you’re up for the fun with a lot less of the work!

Wine & Beer. (Remember, this list is in no particular order, but this may be one of our favorites.) Sturgeon Bay is home to Door 44 Winery, Red Oak Winery, Door Peninsula Winery, and Simon Creek Winery. All offer sampling and many have music and events throughout the Fall. Beer lover? Starboard Brewing and Bridge Up Brewing have you covered and they’re within our Walkable Sturgeon Bay Waterfront, so it’s easy to go from one to the other. (Sturgeon Bay’s Entertainment District allows you to walk with beer, wine, and cocktails purchased from local businesses as long as they’re mixed “to go” in plastic or cans. How awesome is that!)

Fall Paddles. While the days start to get shorter and the weather gets a little more “crisp”, there are still perfect days to kayak, paddleboard, or pontoon. There’s really nothing better than viewing the Fall colors from the water, especially along Potawatomi State Park. Want to check out the Lake side? There are beautiful colors all over and as an added bonus, you can kayak the caves of Cave Point County Park, too. Smaller inland lakes like Clark Lake which lead into Logan Creek are fabulous, too (think Canada in Door County). So many options! Fall Colors and Fall Flavors. We obviously love the fall colors on the trees, but fall colors are all over the stores of Sturgeon Bay. From home interiors to those fabulous fall sweaters, the Waterfront Districts have you covered.
